The week didn't feel as eclectic as is does when I put it all together. But eclectic is who we are and what we do and its okay. It's good, actually. I'm just grateful for the days.
October 28

Aiden's last soccer game of the season, likely his last JV game ever.
It is as they say...the years go fast.
October 29
Aiden had his annual physical...he checked out healthy and he grew FOUR inches year over year.
We discovered our beloved pediatrician is retiring. We've been with her since I interviewed her while pregnant with our first (first-time mom eye roll). I expressed my deep gratitude for all her years of care and wisdom, citing specific advice and instances.
In turn, she said we taught her so much and we were among her special families. She said although she doesn't share our faith, she has admired and respected the way we don't keep it small and hold it to ourselves, but instead we cast a wide net and let it affect the way we live for good and for people.
Later I was thinking about the conversation and how beautiful, albeit brief it was. Its possible the only commonality we share is the love of our families and our humanity, yet we have a mutual affection and respect for each other. Let's make that more common.
Somehow I ended up at the theater with my two boys, of all people. Shaun and I have seen Les Miserables more than half a dozen times on Broadway and off, but it was Aiden's first time and he loved it. The production was remarkable and we had such a fun evening.
October 30
Avery brought her little charge over to the house for the day. I loved hearing a little voice around the house.
October 31
The weather was warm and dry for our church's Harvest Fest. This is the "candy room" with enough candy to feed the 2500-3000 visitors...
...and more than 200 volunteers, a record number.
I love opportunities to serve as a family (Shaun was driving shuttle), (we miss you, Amanda!)...
...and with family.
November 1
Jason had an away game just down the road from us, so after a day of here, there and everywhere, Shaun and I met up at the field. Notably, he had an important tackle and a great catch, among other plays and his team came out with the win.
November 2
TBQ Meet 2.
It was special to have two youth pastors involved in the day, including Mason!
We left before the last round to head to NYC, where I had a PET scan. It worked for us to all go. While I sat in a room for an hour while the radioactivity stuff they put in my veins worked its way through, Shaun, Avery and Aiden went to the MET and then we found each other for dinner. It was a nice way to make a dumb thing not so dumb.
We changed the clocks and now it will be dark and cold for all the rest of time. Or at least several months. And its terrible. Every time I go out after 5pm feels like a little personal victory. Game face, happy thoughts...we can do this!!
