Project 365, Week 6

We used to do Best & Worst around the dinner table each night to share the high and low of our day. My current life reminds me of that game and I tend to deal with extremes, even though by nature I'm a pretty steady person. The "worsts" sure do their part to make me more grateful for the "bests", the mundane and the ordinary.

February 3
Amanda was back at school and classes, but Avery and I had a slow morning at the hotel in PA. We were stalling so that we could stop in Westchester on the way home to do a treatment.

This first business day of February would prove to be fraught with challenges. Its the annual date of our health insurance renewal and this year, because our old company dropped the plan we were on (maybe for the sole purpose of getting me off of their books 😉), we had to switch companies. It took me a while to get through and verify for very certain that we were covered on the new plan (I was looking to avoid paying the full $20K+ out of pocket).

It also happened to be the first day of a computer system switchover for all of MSK. Confusion abounded. We waited 1.5 hours past my appointment time to get called back to a room. That's standard. But then, because they were trying to fix something with how the orders for my treatment were put in, we waited in the room for an additional two hours before they even could start the infusion. We finally walked out of the building at 9:45pm, with a two-hour drive home ahead of us. Poor Avery!! She was so brave and resolved and got us home safely, but it was actually terrible.

Amanda's school held a couple days of special services that I was able to live stream (and even catch a few glimpses of her!).

February 7
I wasn't quite feeling up to going back to work but we were down a few people, so I went. And there was a ton to do and I made it.

February 8
This girl came home for the weekend to join in on some of the good things we had planned.

Sarah and Tony had a teeny, tiny gathering to renew their love and commitment and to have their marriage officially recognized by the Catholic church. The brief ceremony was performed by their beloved priest at the church they faithfully attend. It was SO beautiful and SO special! And Sarah was stunning.

I love weddings, but give me a couple who has some years of marriage under their belt and know more fully what it means to vow their lives to each other in good times and in bad and still they say, "I do".

“When over the years someone has seen you at your worst, and knows you with all your strengths and flaws, yet commits him- or herself to you wholly, it is a consummate experience. To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.”

February 9
Church was snowed out, so we had a slow morning until we went to the office to move snow and clean. All five of us went, which was fun.

Later in the afternoon we met up with some cousins to go sledding. Oh my, its so fun to watch people frolicking in the snow.

This was our crazy SuperBowl party.😃

  1. "fun to watch people people frolicking in the snow..." The operative word here is WATCH. Ha!
