Such a special week for the memory banks! Sidenote: I've realized my memory bank would be overdrawn without this blog. Blogs were THE thing back when I started in 2008, now they almost feel old-fashioned, but I love this family history we have and my kids love going back through, reliving past memories. Also, there are a few out-of-state family members who always make it a point to let me know they appreciate the updates here. And so, I begin my 14th year blogging, "banking" memories. Whoever you are, thanks for taking the time to stop in and check up on us.

Christmas, and the week after, looked a little different this year because Covid. My sister devised a plan to so something crazy and go away during that time. She didn't have to ask us twice...we were all in! When we presented it to the kids, we told them it would be a family trip instead of presents. It took them just a second to process the idea and then they got excited.
On the road! Its so special how much all the cousins enjoy being together...anything else that is happening beyond being together is just extra.
The sun was setting over Chesapeake Bay as we were crossing the 17-mile bridge. Shaun slowed the car as much as possible so we could all savor God's show.
When we got to our hotel, the moon had just begun to show off. And palm trees!! :)
We
took over hung out in the lobby while waiting for them to switch our rooms to one floor. Each family had a suite which consisted of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen and living room. Additionally, my sister reserved a one-bedroom suite for her boys. The kids hung out there some of the time and it was nicknamed "The Nest".

There was no breakfast/restaurant area in our hotel so every morning Shaun walked across the street to get us coffee, which we enjoyed together on our balcony while watching the sun rise over the ocean.
There were four pools, two inside, two outside.
There were also a couple fire pits. This small one was by the boardwalk and the babbling sound from the fountain, coupled with the ambiance and heat from the fire was just right.
2008
Last time I posted about our trip to VA (
here) was much more concise. :)
2020
Amy found a room on the 10th floor that had tables and couches and a patio with a huge fire pit. We claimed it as our own for the time we were there.
I found these three having a grand time together.
"The Nest", which maybe more aptly could be called "The Screen Room". We did our best to limit the time spent in there but the kids had fun playing Among Us with each other and mutual friends at church.
What a happy, joyful, special event!! My first niece/nephew to get engaged. It was SO beautiful and what an honor that we got to witness it!
My sister put together a little engagement party in "our" 10th floor room and we got to share in the excitement as they Facetimed friends and family with the news. It struck me what a solid, supportive community they have, made up of family and friends they've chosen.
New day, new mercy.
I was at the gym before 5am...nice and quiet. :)
It was warm and early and beautiful so I grabbed my camera and walked, reflecting on God's faithfulness this past year, trusting that He'll be faithful again.
By 10, we were on the road headed back home.
I love road tripping with this guy. He is home to me.
Then we went straight to pick up Dakota. My kids were kiddy and so was he. So much love!
Happy New Year! Every day, a gift. Here we are, still with breath in our lungs. Its going to be a good year!
It is a rhythm our relationship has always had...we dream and plan years, sometimes decades, out. We are always scheming the next thing(s), not in a discontented way, but in a what-are-the-possibilities way. No one would every accuse us of being impulsive. ;)
January 2
Put Dakota in the stroller and walked with a friend.
Nice quiet evening before heading back to work and school after a lovely break.
We broke out Avery's Christmas gift, a 2000-piece puzzle.
