Project 365, Week 19

Lots of things packed into this week, with a wedding countdown happening and so many celebrations. What a gift to have happy things to look forward to!

May 5
My every-two-months MRI/CT/lab extravaganza. If they give me an inch of a break, I take a mile, so in six week's time, I'd been moving on with my life. It was irritating to have to go to NY. But my dad drove me and we had a nice time together and it all went as smoothly as it could.

(A few days later I found out that we'll do another two-month break...good news!)

Avery and I had plans to grab lunch for Cinco de Mayo, but it worked for everyone to go so with a few minutes notice. So we hopped in the car, picked up Aiden from school on the way and ate a meal at 230 in the afternoon. So fun (and no crowds)!!

May 6
Kiki was having a milestone birthday so we gathered as many of the girls in the family as were available... we wore girly dresses and had flowers and candles. We had private room, so Ezra had the freedom to walk around.

We each dug up some old photos of her with the kids in various years doing various activities and gave her a quiz on the when/where/why of the photo. My dad is legendary for remembering dates, but she did really well, even without his help.

Grandkids are her favorite hobby. She loves to plan outings specific to a kids interest....most often its simple and inexpensive, and involves distance driving. We are grateful for her and another year of life.

Work began on our bathroom, some wall patching and painting. There are many things I would change about it layout-wise but I'm unwilling to spend the money on something that works as is.

May 7
Watermelons can be found in stores again. This first one of the season was a winner!

The youth pastor at our East Windsor campus took a position at another church and this was his last night. Many of the kids got up to briefly share the impact he's had on them, thanking him for long-into-the-night conversations and for showing up to activities to cheer and support. It was really touching.

May 8
Makeup trial, number two. She went much lighter this time and was happier with the result.

May 9
Working down the list...

May 10
Third prom for this couple. They have an easy way with each other and are fun to be around.

May 11
Nathanael (on the left) pressed through and graduated from UCONN. His family was at Gampel, but those of us at the house got to watch the 30 second version online.

It was Mother's Day and in the middle of the hairy month of May, but still a huge accomplishment that deserved to be recognized. Because our house is just 10 minutes from UCONN and closer for most of the family, it was held at our house, though Amy did all the food and clean up.

It was a perfect ten weather day, so we set up dining outside. The boys had their first go around with plastic table cloths outdoors and it was comical to watch. They started out confident but then the wind fought against them. To their credit, they persevered (and I didn't hear any cussing ;))

Talking with his nephews who are in the middle east.

Pop spent some time with Amanda, encouraging her with the guitar. Added up, he has spent years and years of his life strumming a guitar, singing and writing songs.

Go Huskies!

Mother's Day with my mom and 3/4 of her kids.

Such a fun crew to do nothing with.

These guys!! I really can't believe I get to be their mom. It has been my great joy to love and be loved by them. They were generous in their honoring of me.

Parenting is one of the main ways I have learned how sinful my heart is and my hour-by-hour need of a Savior. I am shamelessly, gratefully dependent on God.
