Project 365, Week 45

This week could be summed up with three words: Lost In Vegas.  We didn't go to Vegas, but we were caught up in the show.

There was a performance Sunday at our church and after was tear down and trailer-loading.  Shaun and Amanda and our friend Jeremiah set out for the 12-hour car ride to Ohio, were they started setup on Tuesday morning.

On Thursday morning, the rest of us joined up with my sister and niece and headed to Ohio.  We did shows Friday and Saturday nights and then tore down and packed up the trailer before turning around to do the 12-hour road trip again.

November 3
Someone else took Aiden out, so I captured some of the gun scene.

November 4
It was a quiet morning once we got Daddy and Amanda off to Ohio and the school kids off to school.  Aiden has been into legos recently and we are so blessed to have a whole bin that someone handed down to us.  Love seeing his creations.
November 5
This is where Shaun and Amanda were.
It was a running around kind of day back at home, but we snuck in some Facetime with Shaun and Amanda before bed.
 November 6
Those big, beautiful trees I've enjoyed all spring and summer are shedding!  It was SO nice out, so suddenly getting them raked up became a priority of the day.  :)

 November 7
Road trip!  My sister drove the entire time, so I got to relax and take pictures of the beautiful countryside.

After checking into the hotel, we met up with a bunch of road-weary travelers to run a sound check.
 November 8
The cast and crew had to be at the church to run through things, so the kids and I had the pool to ourselves for the morning before naps.  We had a blast...I have three fish!
R was happy to fill in where he was needed, mostly backstage, but he did get a small part on stage....Darth Vader!  :)
 November 9
More pool time, this time with friends.

 November family pic, pre-show.

More on our trip, and the show, this week!

Halloween

I've never really understood Halloween, and now as a parent I REALLY don't.

Is it because I have small children who are constantly faced with ghosts, goblins and witches around this time?

Or maybe because the thought of thinking up costume ideas makes the creative side of my brain hurt?

Spend $30 on a one-use costume?  Ugh!  DIY it?  Nope...cold sweat.

Could it be the excessive amount of candy that causes arguing, makes them crazy and threatens to rack up our dental bill?

Or maybe its just that I'm a first-born and this whole "pretend" thing just really doesn't appeal to me.

At any rate, we chose to do something this year.  Our old church, where the kids still go for Friday night activities, was hosting a themed party for the evening...come dressed as a pet.

Many ideas were tossed around, but from the beginning Aiden was set on being a lion, specifically the one David killed with his bare hands.

I thought it would be fun to do a theme with the three of them (Three Blind Mice?), but no one could agree so the girls decided on a bunny and an owl.  Marginal "pets", but not everyone can go as a dog, right?

As a side note, just a word of advise....think it through before bringing up "Three Blind Mice" to your young children.  Because they will ask you about it, and you'll start to sing the rhyme and then you will realize how inappropriate it is and that they could have lived a few more years before knowing about the farmer's wife and her violent, cruelty-to-animals tendancies.

A trip to the craft store....
...and some help from R and we were on our way.
We were happy to see a gorilla there who had an amazing resemblance to Uncle Nathan.

15 seconds to dig for candy.
Craft time at Auntie Laryssa's table.

 R is quite an artist!
All the kids got to show off their costumes for the judges.  Aiden won "most unique pet" :).

The best part?  Its over!  And most of the candy has mysteriously disappeared.  :)  Speaking of candy...

Project 365, Week 44

My heart is swelled with blessings I cannot contain and my head is spinning with all the craziness.  There is a smile on my face, probably equal parts joy and insanity.  :)

I have a lot of pictures here, but it doesn't even begin to cover our week.  Maybe in pieces I'll be able to share some of it...the amazing things God is doing.

October 27
Shaun was essentially MIA this week, so poor Aiden got woken up from nearly every nap.  I was washing his sheets so he found a new setup.

Showtime!  Shaun on sound, me taking pictures and the kids mesmerized, even though they've seen it dozens of time.

A couple days later Aiden said to me, Mom, when you see the big treasure box, Jess Valentine is in there.
My niece Maddie is the little girl crying.
And my gorgeous sister has many roles, including hours of time and hair-pulling-out behind-the-scenes.
October 28
Shaun and I were standing in the yard and Aiden was skillfully riding his bike.  We asked him what he thought about taking the training wheels off.  He was a little hesitant, but then ran and got the socket wrench, with the right size on it.

It was a good first time out.
 October 29
Brent helped Avery get outfitted for a character at school.
 October 30
These two read together for an entire hour together while R was in therapy and an older gentlemen was talking my ear off.  He was originally from Maine and reminded me so much of Shaun's grandfather.

Get this....at 72 he and his wife took in two foster kids who they later adopted.  The boys are 10 and 12 and he is 82.  Can you imagine??
After we picked Amanda up from speech class, we took R to inquire about a job at a restaurant.  While we were waiting, the kids discovered a beaver dam...three actually, and we saw the beaver swimming around.  They were SO excited and Amanda desperately wanted to accidentally fall in.  :)
 October 31
Sweetest little bunny.
November 1
BIG DAY!  R got his learner's permit!
While he was taking his test, Avery noticed this sign and muttered to herself, wow....that's dumb....how come they don't want you to drink and drive??  I didn't have the heart to tell her they were not referring to the water I'm constantly downing.
 The heavens declare Your Majesty!
I went to Hartford for opening night of the Women of Faith conference.  I kept climbing and climbing, until I was on THE last row, all the way at the top of the civic center.  When I turned around to sit, my knees got a little wobbly from the height.

Eventually I moved down to one of the dozen empty rows below me.  Best available seats?  Ah...no.  :)
After I went and picked up my family who were at church for a Lost in Vegas filming.  Its going to be on DVD/Blue Ray!  The kids were happy to have a cousin.  :)
 November 2
Day 2 of the women's conference, this time with three friends.  I was thrilled to hear Angie Smith speak, as I've read a ton of her work.  SUCH a good day.
After lunch, Third Day performed...they are truly timeless.
I met up with my family and got to see my kids for 10 minutes of the day.  Enough to think, how blessed am I that this handsome guy runs up to me with a huge smile, hugs me tight and says I love you Momma.
After dropping the kids with my sister, we were off to my second concert of the day.  Chris Tomlin was aMAZing!  Honestly?  I didn't really go to see him.  I went to see Louie Giglio talk, which was part of the night.  But Tomlin was quite impressive.  He has an incredible smile and seemed to just be loving the night and what he was doing, feeding off the electric crowd.

And Louie G....I could listen to him ALL day long!
