Project 365, Week 17

We're well over a month of shelter-in-place and many parts of life have fallen into a new rhythm, while other parts still feel strange and weird and hard. We are choosing to see this time as a gift....slowing the rush, getting intentional time together, leaning in to what God would want us to learn. But mixed with that are many moments of deep sadness or fear or anxiousness.

April 20
While watching the sunrise through our front window, I decided it would be a good day to drive the 2 miles to the farm. So I grabbed all my morning books, my mug of coffee and watched and read from the side of the road. So often I have to purposely remind myself that God is God, and I am not. My life goes better when I think far more about Jesus than I think about myself. I have to (again) declare that I am loved and accepted and forgiven by him. When I see what he has created and I see his grandeur, a peace and a confidence begin to settle over my soul.

I got to the grocery store minutes before it opened and joined the line outside. Still dressed from my workout, I turned my hoodie backwards, making it double as a mask. I actually got two compliments on it. :)

Shaun took the kids for a little soccer practice after work.

Facetiming little cousins.

I hung out with a few of my neighbors via Zoom. They are lovely to hang out with, yet we are different in many ways. For example, one of them lamented, Do you think we'll ever get to the point where we don't feel like we need to wipe down the cereal boxes that get delivered? I didn't mention that that very morning I'd walked myself into Aldi with my hoodie on backwards because I didn't bring a mask because it wasn't yet law and I'd not wiped down a single cardboard item.

April 21
This was the first day the state was requiring that everyone wear masks in places of business, at least when interacting with customers.

The birthday game keeps going, about a round a day.

April 22
Aiden has been the first riser. This morning he sat with me and I read aloud what I was reading in the Bible. That brought about a really meaningful, informative talk. His Bible knowledge and appreciation of scripture is quite remarkable. And then, as we were right in the middle of this conversation, he looked past my head and said, Mom, I figured out what Pickles & Penguins have in common, referring to the game sitting on the shelf behind me. And that is how the male species does conversation, at least the males I live with. :)

Post Family Run and now we've incorporated a trip to Chik-fil-A afterwards, winner gets to order a milkshake. :) Aiden again!

April 23
Soccer with friends. I played goalie for a while, but they kick the ball too hard so I took to the safety of the sidelines. :)

April 24
So. Many. Games.

April 25
We worked in the morning but the afternoon was spent outside doing yard work. SUCH a pretty day!

Church in our living room. :)

Campfires are a great way to hang out with people at a distance.

April 26
Six months ago my dad let his congregation know that he would be retiring at the end of April, giving them time to find someone new and to see them through Christmas and Easter. When the COVID thing became a reality, he offered to stay on but they had found an interim person and he was released. Obviously the big retirement party couldn't happen as planned but we couldn't bear the thought of him completing his last Sunday morning sermon without some fanfare. So we made signs and gathered noisemakers and were waiting in his yard as he came down the driveway.

He's been pastoring nearly as long as I've been alive, its what he was created to do and he's done it with humility and faithfulness. He has given and loved, most especially to "the least of these". Often he worked a second job so he could support his family but still it felt like he was always available to us. He was the same guy, whether at home with his family or on stage behind a pulpit. He's been quietly changing his little corner of the world and now he gets to be on a new adventure!

Amy did a tremendous job compiling a slideshow with videos from people he's pastored in past years. It was neat to hear a little sampling of how people have been directly impacted by my dad's life and ministry and friendship. Only when he gets to heaven will the whole story be told.

April's 10 on 10

10 pictures on the 10th day of the month (Friday). {Document a snapshot
of your life; find beauty among the ordinary things in your day!}

Needed this little pep talk posted in our workout space because I was tempted to let myself off easy. I'm more thankful than ever for the home gym we've built up over the last 20 years.

The sun, the birds and I, worshipping our Creator.

I spent some time digging up old photos from Easters of yore, working on a slideshow to gift to the people who we wouldn't be able to see this year. I adore that Nathanael is holding Avery's hand. This is back in the day when the group size was manageable. :)

Shaun and I met with a young widowed woman who will take the place as our top client.

We stopped to pick up a couple things. Its all crazy town right now.

Two days before Easter and they had a plethora of flowers, selling for almost nothing. These roses were $2!

The houses in our neighborhood put up Easter eggs in their windows so the kids could do a hunt. The highest I heard was 86!

We grabbed the kids and went to celebrate our "win" at work.

This is how I close up the office. These products used to be hidden in a cabinet, now they are proudly on display for all to see. Look how clean and disinfected we are! Its safe to do business with us!

Instead of being at church for the last sold-out show of Passion, we were at home, doing a short service online with Bishop and Lady Nita leading us in communion.

We got some good laughs out of playing Headz Up.

Project 365, Week 16

The world is such a strange place right now. We've adapted as much as we're able. There's easy and hard, fun and sad, peaceful and angry...all in a day.

April 13
Being in middle school is hard, particularly I think, if you are a girl. With distance learning came a weight off of Amanda's shoulders. Even though she is very social, she seems to be so much more relaxed and happy doing school at home....in her onesie. :)

They definitely fight and argue but these three also seem to be finding a groove of being together.

April 14
Different day, same onesie.

This is where Avery does most of her school work.

We took advantage of a beautiful day and did yard work. There are about 20 too many trees in our front yard, that create lots of work on the ground below them.

Pop and Kiki stopped over briefly to enjoy a fire on the patio.

April 15
Traditionally, April 15 is Tax Day when finally, after a grueling three months, its over. We're usually a bit battle-scarred, but ultimately we crossed the finish time. With the extension of the filing deadline, there was no finish line to cross, no phew...we made it feeling. Its also Shaun's birthday, which generally gets a bit lost in the shuffle, but this year we could celebrate! Except...go where? Do what?? We at least got to be together.

Family Fun Run, week #3. Aiden won again and beat the over-all best time (his) by about three minutes!

We played Axis & Allies, one of Shaun's favorites...lots of time, lots of strategy.

April 16
Avery lead one of the daily devotionals for youth group. She has a beautiful heart and is so gutsy to have it posted online!

So, so fun to watch spring doing its thing.

April 17
We've been in regular contact with Dakota's mom, trying to support them in all the ways we can think of. She sent us this sweetest picture of him looking at the card we sent him, saying the kids names. We (especially Avery) miss him!!

April 18
This was the day we should have been arriving in Florida, sticking our toes in the water and getting down to the business of recuperating from tax season. Instead, tax season is far from over and we woke up to the surprise of snow on April 18th!!

Avery texted me at working asking if we could please go sledding with cousins. We had to act fast before the snow melted.

We're playing one round a day.

April 19
A beautiful day (the day after the snow...typical New England)!! Shaun installed a new garage door opener and we worked on an oft-neglected corner of the yard.

So cute to see Aiden eating his peanut butter and Nutella sandwich out on the porch, in his bathrobe. Like his parents, he enjoys his alone time.

Tony and Sarah took the convertible out and went for a Sunday drive. Lucky for us, they stopped in for a few minutes. What a gift to see them in real life!
