Love Dare in Action

Yesterday the girls were at my sister's, so I had my day all planned out and a hefty "to-do" list made. I cherish these days that come so infrequently. So when Shaun came into the office and asked if I was interested in joining him in a painting party at one of our vacant apartments, my initial answer was "no thanks (thinking, why would you even ask that??)".

I saw his shoulders slump just a little so I asked if it really meant a lot to him. I could tell it did but he was hesitant to ask me and interfere with my day and plans (he knows best of anyone how well I handle it when my plans and my agenda get changed or interrupted...ugly). Very quickly I remembered the day's Love Dare that had popped into my inbox first thing that morning:

Love Dare - Day 14
Purposefully neglect an activity you would normally do so you can spend quality time with your spouse.
Ecclesiastes 9:9
So, I quickly changed my clothes and joined him. He trimmed while I rolled and we got to be in the same room and talk and just be together. We got quite a bit done and both really enjoyed our time. I don't always get it right, but on this day, I'm so thankful I heeded God's voice.

My to-do list? Yeah, its still sitting there, but I'm so glad I didn't miss that time with my husband! And only a few minor mishaps, the most major being when my roller, thick with paint, came flying off the extension handle mid motion high on the wall. It bounced a couple times across the hardwood floor Shaun just re-finished. Oops!

  1. Such a sweet story...I remember you talking about the love dare challenge and I forget to come back and click on the link that day. I think I'm going to try it out once Josh gets back from his conference!

  5. Good going! I'm a pretty structured person myself and my hubby very spontaneous so we've learned over the years to compromise. One of the ways I speak his love language is to put aside the routine occasionally and just go with him, whether it's running errands around town or going on an impromptu "date".

Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday! Glad you enjoyed the flowers. We sure do :-)

  6. Lisa,
Thanks for stopping by The Picket Fence. Reading your profile made me realize you and I have a lot in common (except for age difference=bit age is just a #, right?) You are married to your best friend, raising two beautiful little girls. That is just what I did and in away am still doing. Now, I have 3 GRANDbabies and my life is wonderful.
You keep setting aside time for you and hubby, that is so important.

  8. Hi Lisa, Thanks for visiting over at my blog. I love your posts about the dancing girls and the ice skating and your birth. I love that your hubby made apple pie for you. On my birthday I get vegemite on toast and coffee in bed - which I love but I think apple pie is the way to go!!!

It is very easy to get caught up in the day to day routine and forget about what is really important - time with the ones we love. Thanks for reminding of that!

  10. Great job, Lisa! I think we're all guilty of getting wrapped up in what should be or needs to be done and overlook the most important things! Thank you for the wonderful reminder!!
