Soccer

Well, we've entered the brave new world of kids sports.  Its always been known to me (or at least as soon as I said Yes, I'll marry you) that sports would be a big part of my life.  And so it has...watching on a field or on a court, listening to a game and/or the endless talk about it after on the radio, watching on tv, planning for, training for, dot ,dot, dot.  And now we've dipped our feet into the water of adding our kids to that scene.

Spring soccer!  Originally Shaun thought it would be good for Amanda, a little more room to be an individual than dance allows for. :)  But Avery expressed a genuine interest, so, despite our doubts we signed her up, too (its cheap and three minutes from the house).

Her first practice went ok.  She came away from it declaring she loved soccer!  Amanda and Aiden were positively chomping at the bit to get in on the action.  On the first night we went directly to the field from dance class and she'd neglected to pack a shirt, thus the leotard outfit.

Conveniently, there is a playscape on the grounds.
Aiden's first time on a big boy swing (since there were no baby ones).

We missed a couple because of Florida, so last Saturday was Amanda's first time out with her Micro-Mini "team".  Parents are strongly encouraged to participate.  Once she got into it she really enjoyed it and can't wait to go again next time.

Aiden's mostly good about staying off the field but doesn't understand why neither team needs a ringer to join them. :)

On the way home, Avery asked me if she had to keep playing soccer.  I asked her why she wasn't enjoying it.  She said when she's running people bump into her and its hard to get the ball.  I told her yes, she did have to follow through with her commitment this spring, but after that she could hang up her cleats for good if she wanted.  She was satisfied with that.  She is SO my daughter, in many ways.

I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.

  1. Somehow soccer is a second child sport in our house as well. Avery looks so tall now!

  2. Love these pictures, like Amanda's pink shin guards too.

Phil played in 1st grade and had a little girl on his team that would just stand there abd pick clover during the games. Sure doesn't look like your girls will be doing that.
