Adventures in the Parking Lot

This afternoon Amanda and I ran to the store to pick up a gift. She's never my first choice to bring along as a buddy...sorry, but Shaun would say the same thing...but I thought she might be up for it since she'd just napped for 3.5 hours.

Anyway...as we were walking up to the car after being in the store for half an hour, forty minutes tops, I saw that the front passenger window was smashed. Hmm...I peeked in and confirmed my suspicion that our GPS system had been stolen. (My Mother's Day present...rats!)

I called Shaun to get his opinion on whether it was worth reporting and also to tell him where I was so he could drop Avery off before heading to his CE class.

Finally the policeman arrived (Avery was first to spot the cruiser), asked his twenty questions and did other police stuff. By this time Avery and Amanda had gone over the story roughly 47 times. "Window boke! Window boke! and "Somebody smashhhed the window?"

When the officer took pictures of the car Amanda said "Cheezze!" and she told him "window boke!" He thought she was so darned cute and, well...she is!

He dusted for fingerprints, took a statement and brushed off my seat. It was all very simple and easy. I was thankful for the peace God gave me immediately and actually, Amanda and I just kept singing our song Sonshine, Sonshine, I have a different kind of Sonshine...

The girls were enthralled with the whole process and it was a great learning experience for them that policemen are here to help us whenever we need them (up to this point, the policeman has been the one who makes and enforces the law about little girls being buckled in their car seats).

So far we are only out a couple hours and $2.00 in quarters at the car vacuum place. I suspect that amount may increase tomorrow when we call the window repair dude.

So let me ask you a couple of the questions he asked me:

Do you have any known enemies?

Is your GPS registered (with what, I'm still not sure) and do you have the serial number?

Sorry, no pictures, but here's one of that cute little girl the policeman was referring to. :)

  1. Hey Lisa! Crazy experience. I love how you referred to the window "dude"... I say dude too! :o) Ha! Cute! I love to see house you are so engaged with your kids like I am. It's the best!

  2. Yikes! I'm so glad you all weren't hurt!

I had read GPS units were a hot commodity but haven't thought much about it! I think I'll tell DK to take his out or hide it from now on. He just leaves it suction cupped to the windshield. Good luck on the windshield replacement. Hopefully it's covered by your auto insurance.

One question...what is a CE class?

  4. Bummer, Lisa! I will never understand how people can go around stealing things.

I can see how she charmed the officer...she can't help it!

  5. Did you tell the nice policeman that you knew of one enemy you have...satan? grrrgh about the whole deal but at least the girls thought it was an adventure. I can picture Amanda saying, "Cheese" when his camera out. Bless her little heart.

  6. First of all, your little girl sure is a cutie pie! Secondly, I'm so sorry that your window got busted and your GPS was stolen. That's such a shame!! I have a portable GPS that sits on the dashboard. However, when I park somewhere, I always take it down and hide it, just to be on the safe side.

  7. Bummer, Lisa! You didn't tell me. We always take ours off. #1 it gets it out of site and #2 it protects it from baking in the sun. That is so violating. Too bad Riley hadn't gone for the ride...I'm sure you'd still have your GPS. One more reason to loathe the grocery store.

  8. That sucks! Chris and I are pretty anal about taking ours out but now I think we'll be even more OCD about it! Too funny about Mandy - "cheeeeze" That's awesome!
