Happy New Year!

Its 2013!!

Odd numbers are not my favorite, but I can't not like every other year.  Well, technically its not every other year, because 5's are OK.  But still, four years out of each decade is a lot to not like.

Through the years I've worked on my numbers sickness, and when Aiden was born on 7.13.09 that helped boost my progress to realize there is MUCH good about odd numbers.  I still really like to end the treadmill on all even numbers, among other things, but hey...everyone has their things, right?

How did I get started talking about numbers??  Oh yes, its a New Year!!  A new year.  If I knew it would do any good, I'd cry and throw a fit about 2012 passing (already!) but I've learned that does not stop time, it only robs from the present, the now.

So, I look to 2013 with much gratefulness and anticipation.  I don't know what the days hold, but I know God will be with me and that He has great love for me.  Really, what else do I need to know?

This is how I kicked off the New Year...

Starting off 2013 with Scripture #1 (of 24):

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5

I love the "make it obedient" part.

I can't control the things that happen to me each day, but I can control how I think about them.  I can say to myself, "I have a choice to have destructive thoughts or constructive thoughts right now.  I can wallow in what's wrong and make things worse, or I can ask God for a better perspective to help me see good even when I don't feel good." 1. Happy New Year, Lisa!!

You and my daughter are very similar in the numbers thing! me, I could not even tell you what they were when I got off the tread mill...I am thinking "I just want to get OFF"! :)

Love the quote from Lysa...I may have to borrow that for myself. Definitely what I need to remember starting out 2013.

  4. Oh my word, you and I are a lot alike in that numbers thing. I still have a hard time that my daughter was born on 1/9/10 (a few hours later and it would've been 1/10/10, which seemed so much better to me!). The rest of my little fam have bdays on even-numbered days and that one odd-numbered day just throws me for a loop! Oh, how God creates us with such complexities. :)

Love the verse you choose to kick off the year!

  6. I SO relate with the numbers thing! Determined to be optimistic and hopeful and embrace this year even though I'm not a huge fan of the number :)
