You know these fun, safe toddler cars?
Well, they can become even more fun and a whole lot less safe if one person drives and one person rides on top. Yes, all fun and games until...you guessed it..."someone gets hurt". As you might imagine, Amanda was the one riding on top, Avery was driving. Apparently they went over a bump or came to a quick stop. At any rate, Amanda went flying off and her face skidded across the pavement.
Her daddy ran to get her and came back with blood on his shoulder. The ordeal put her out for several hours.
She woke up the next morning with her fever back and just not herself, but still a smile or two, the poor thing.
Yeah, I wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley either! This morning she seems to be feeling better. The scrapes are a little better, the eye a little bluer, and her fever seems to be gone.
And speaking of Amanda being fearless, Shaun is determined to teach her how to swim this year because he's already had to go in after her more than he'd like. Some of his parenting philosophies are not main stream and are sometimes judged, but they work for us and he's never been one to care what people think.
For example, instead of putting childproof latches on all the kitchen cabinets, he believes we should just teach our children which ones to stay out of. Instead of using a gate at the stairs to keep them out, we teach them how to use the stairs. So, instead of keeping Amanda in a life jacket any time she is near water (nearly impossible) he believes we should teach her how to swim. And since he is the only one of "we" that has any swimming skillz, he has taken on the challenge.
She did great with her first lesson. Putting her face in the water is mastered and her lack of fear has made for some quick progress.
bless her heart, those scrapes look pretty bad. i hope she gets to feeling better soon. i do LOVE those pool shots you got though, i used to have that same pool liner, is that your pool?
ReplyDeleteoh, those scraps look bad...she is one tough girl!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy kids all learned to swim really young....I grew up in AZ and you start swimming young! I think they learn faster too.
OH NO, that poor sweet thing!
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally get the parenting philosophy and hope she catches right on to swimming. It's so important for those fearless ones to learn as soon as possible! :)
Aw poor little thing, hope she's doing okay now!
ReplyDeleteOh poor girl! Her fearlessness reminds me of my youngest brother. (I'm the oldest of five.) I think he was just determined to keep up with the rest of us. He used to carry boxes of toys downstairs and, after falling one too many times, my mom finally told him to throw his toys down before walking down. He also hated using a life jacket and would take off his water wings every time my mom wasn't looking.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like your hubby's philosophy. My hubby has very similar ideas. He always says, "We'll just teach her not to go there or play with that." I'm a lot more cautious about babyproofing, but I can see his point too. She will have to learn eventually, so I think we just kind of compromise and do a little bit of babyproofing while still teaching her about boundaries.
Hope your sweet girl heals quickly...and praying for a safe and healthy delivery of your newest little one!
She IS a tough little one, to keep smiling through that. Sweet girl - I guess she won't be riding on the top of that car much anymore. :)
ReplyDeleteThat pool looks so good right now - it's HOT. And yay for both girls doing so well with their lessons! Savannah isn't a fan of the water, but I'm hoping she gets over that soon.
poor thing! hope she feels better soon! and, your pool looks so refreshing!
