Gold Teeth

Well, at 4 and 2 1/2, we thought it was high time the girls saw a dentist, so we used the pediatric dentist recommended by a friend. Shaun took the girls so I could stay home and work. He said both girls did great and were very cooperative. The staff was obviously very good at "the kid thing" and they came home with balloons, bouncy balls, stickers, Dora toothbrushes, etc.

Amanda also came home with a not-so-positive report about her teeth. She has a tooth that never came in and most likely will not come in with her adult teeth either, which is going to leave a large gap. In addition, she has an underbite. Basically, once we finish paying off her birth we better start putting money away for her mouth work.

Now, this visit was for two children I understand, but all this fun came with a price tag of $348!! What in the world?? I'm glad Shaun was there because I would have been coaking and sputtering. It never even occurred to me to ask for pricing since I thought most doctors were all in the same range. The receptionist asked if Shaun wanted to make a six-month appointment and he said, "Ah, no!" IF we take their little baby teeth back to the dentist, we'll take them to ours. Is this normal? What do you pay when you go to the dentist?

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

  1. Hi Lisa! $100 for each kid and like $130 for me. We don't do the flouride though. Sydney also has an underbite! Maybe that's part of what makes Amanda a Sydney so similar...ps..we bring them to Windham Dental..Always wonderful with the kids.

  2. I try to avoid the dentist as much as I can...I honestly can't remember how much it was last time I went. I think it was overshadowed by the bills from the hospital visit in April when my husband had to have bloodwork and stuff done when we found out he had diabetes -- $400!!! I cried.

  3. our last visit was $700 and i about had a cow! i cannot believe what they charge for fillings! i do not think i will go back to that dentist, i will shop around for prices which is something i didnt realize should be done for dental work. evidently they are all different. this one wasnt even a specialist of any kind or didnt have anything special about it. you live and learn for sure.

  4. If you did xrays and flouride, then that sounds about right, but if it was just a basic cleaning, I think you over paid. We do NOT do the flouride because we have city water and I only let them take xrays every other year.

  5. So glad the girls did well at the dentist. Kate was not a fan when we took her! We have dental insurance & I only had to pay a $30 copay for Kate. But, Kevin had to have a root canal last year and it went above our coverage & we had to pay $1500 out of pocket. OUCH!!!
