This was our 9th Annual trip to Block Island, a place off the coast of Rhode Island that we've grown to love. In past years we've always gone the last part of August and its served as a kind of fair well to summer. However, the weather has been really bad several times, including the hurricane-type weather we had for the entire stay last year....the week that even the ferries were shut down for two days.
We thought we'd switch it up this year and in January that sounded like a fabulous idea, but when our week rolled around this year Shaun was in over his head with apartment renovations. He is into his third month of working 80 hours a week, which basically works out to seven days a week and about 45 waking minutes at home, which includes three meals.
When you've been in a "groove" for that long and you have a deadline creeping up and you know the exact dollar amount its costing you to not be working, well...all that makes it a little difficult to relax and slow down for a vacation. He was really wishing that down time could have been spent catching up with his kids he hasn't seen in forever. Shaun did try but we ended up being there only three of the seven days the house was rented for.
The weather was near perfection with beautiful sunrises and sunsets and we discovered that taking a plane beats taking the ferry any day.
Pretty Rhode Island coast.
Twelve minutes later, Block Island!
This is the same house we stayed at last year...we liked it so much we booked it again. Our view from the porch isn't too shabby.
This isn't Shaun relaxing, this is me staging a photo of the porch and the sunset. :)
This is our backyard, again...not too shabby.
The Hydrangeas were in full bloom, in all manner of color. So grateful to my mom, Grandma and Bobbi for staying at the house with the kids. Avery called us twice a day and they always sounded happy and like they were having a good time.
This is the tent where I hope to photograph a wedding someday soon. :)
O my soul, bless God! God, my God, how great you are! beautifully, gloriously robed, Dressed up in sunshine, and all heaven stretched out for your tent. You built your palace on the ocean deeps, made a chariot out of clouds and took off on wind-wings. You commandeered winds as messengers, appointed fire and flame as ambassadors. You set earth on a firm foundation so that nothing can shake it, ever. You blanketed earth with ocean, covered the mountains with deep waters
Psalm 104:1
Looks like you had a great time and beautiful things to look at.
ReplyDeleteAnd how relaxing is it to be by the water.
We leave Friday for our week in Door County.
Hi to the kids :)
I think I was born to be by the water...I love it. I hope to retire by the water someday!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful place!
I'm dying over those hydrangeas! Love. Love. Love.
ReplyDeleteSad you didn't get to stay the full 7 days, but I know how hard it is for a man to relax, when his mind is elsewhere. Maybe next year will bring better weather and a full week!
Those Hydrangeas! Breathtaking! And so nice to see a pic of you and your hubby together.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are amazing - you just keep getting better and better.
