Playing With Fire

He's been intending to do it for years, maybe since we bought the house nearly 14 years ago....line the chimney.  Shaun did quite a bit of prep work in hopes it would go smooth.  There's a big long story that goes along with this project, but since I am the one and only contributor to this blog (cough...anytime, Shaun), I am going to give you the girl version.

The day arrived and it was very exciting.  Uncle Nathan came over to help and there was a big box to play in!

Nathan always get the high part of jobs, cause he's crazy like that.
These two stayed right in the mix the whole time....so helpful!

The project spanned over several days and ended up being MUCH harder than Shaun had anticipated.  In fact, he ended up having to open up walls to remove obstructions.  Image my surprise (and dismay!) when I walked into my kitchen and saw this hole.

And then on the second floor...my only closet, which I share with Shaun and Aiden and is in Aiden's room.  Victorian homes are not known for their spacious and abounding closets.  :)

Finally...the liner made it all the way down!
Shaun started the first fire of the season in the woodstove.  Aiden was SOOO thrilled!  He got to put the paper in.

And then they sat and watched the fire take off.  The next morning the it was still going...Shaun put Aiden's highchair in front of the woodstove so he could he could watch it while eating his cereal.  He's going to have a busy winter moving wood from one place to the next.  :)

I have it on video so when he is sixteen and having to chop, stack, etc we can remind him how much he used to love doing it.  :)

So, now that my kitchen wall needs to be put back together, what do you think I should do?  I'm considering putting some tile there, just not sure if it will work because the space is not symmetrical.  I'd love to hear your ideas.....

He will bring down your high fortified walls and lay them low; he will bring themdown to the ground, to the very dust.

  1. oops - projects always turn out to be alittle more at our house. Decided yesterday when we were at Menards getting paint for the kitchen to check out counter tops. We have lived in this house for 6 yrs and the green counter tops have to go. Found some and 2 pieces were on clearance because chunks were out of them and they happen to be the corners that will cut off anyway. So no my kitchen is apart, stuff all over and as busy as Joel is this project will not be done soon.

Sorry for all the wholes, glad you do have warmth, Aiden cracks me up.
there are so many fun tiles - could be a fun project. Have you ever done it before? Because that is another thing Joel is think that now we could do a back splash with tiles.

Yep- you start one thing and it leads into so much more at this house.

Good luck with your project - will look forward to seeing what you do.
